Basic Safety Rules for a Steward
In order to avoid accident the steward must follow basic safety rules in his daily job.
· Keep clean and clear the floor all time, Mop eliminate obstruction
· Do not run
· Do not lift object of more than 50 pound without assistance
· Lift with the leg and arms not the back regarding of the objective weight
· Wear protective equipment whenever the job indicate that they are necessary :eye goggles,gloves,hair net, musk etc.
· Do not smoke except assigned smoking area.
· Do not pour cleaning chemical or chemical compound from original container into unlabelled container, drinking glass, food pot, coffee cup, water bottle etc.
· Do not leave electrical or mechanical equipment unattended while operation.
Glass handling
§ Do not stack glass up high
§ Do not handle broken glass without using adequate protection.
§ Do not overload the glass racks
Washing machine
§ Make sure your hands are dry before handling using the electrical switches.
§ Turn off the machine and unplug it before opening any areas
§ Avoid contact with moving parts at all times
§ Do not put a human in the machine
§ Do not reach into the machine to clear blockages.
§ Follow all written instructions.
Water
§ Mop up all spills immediately
§ Use wet floor signs to caution others
§ Do not spray water in service areas.
§ Use rubber gloves while handling wet items.
§ Always check the water temperature.
Knife handling
§ Always handle knives carefully, especially when cleaning them.
§ Never leave knives in a sink of water. This is bad for the blade and presents a safety hazard to anyone who puts his or her hands into the water.
§ As a general rule, hold the knife away from the body
§ When carrying a knife in the kitchen, make sure the blade faces downward to avoid injury to others.
§ Don’t run your fingers down the edge to check the sharpness.
§ Don't attempt to catch a falling knife. Let it fall and get your feet out of the way. It is important to wear leather footwear for protection
§ Don't hide a knife under anything
§ Don't hand a knife to anyone else. Put it down on the table and let them pick it up.

§ Look where you are walking
§ Do not carry heavy loads, always use a cart
§ Use the proper equipment required to do the job.
